GenesisCare has officially opened its new $35 million cancer centre on the Northern Beaches with expanded services, including a new radiation therapy offering and access to clinical trials for eligible patients.
Patients are already accessing the evidence-based, personalised services offered by GenesisCare’s doctors in the new four-storey facility including radiation therapy, chemotherapy, haematology and immunotherapy. Pathology services operated by NSW Health Pathology are also available and diagnostic imaging will be offered soon.
GenesisCare’s General Manager of NSW, Richard Briggs, said, “We’re pleased to open the first cancer centre on Northern Beaches offering radiation oncology and medical oncology under the one roof with the aim of improving convenience and continuity of care for patients.
“The successful relocation and expansion of our treatment services in our brand-new Frenchs Forest building will provide capacity to deliver around 14,000 treatments to patients annually.
“GenesisCare is proud to develop this new centre for the community that adds to local cancer services and gives patients more treatment options close to their homes.”
The Head of Department and Medical Oncologist at GenesisCare’s Frenchs Forest centre, Associate Professor Connie Diakos, said, “Our medical oncologists and haematologists have been providing personalised care to the local community for more than a decade, and we’re proud to have expanded our service offering so that patients needing radiation therapy can access this service in the same familiar location.
“There were around 1700i people diagnosed with cancer on the Northern Beaches in 2021, according to Cancer Institute NSW statistics, and unfortunately the incidence of cancer is only projected to increase.
“GenesisCare offers access to treatment for most adult cancer types and is committed to putting the patient at the centre of our care and their decision-making process, with the right information at hand. We welcome any referred patient who is interested in considering our services.”
